Pink Girl, Blue Boy, Grey Person

By Hawwaa Ibrahim

Gender identification comes as a futile necessity
Why can’t they just ask for the best from me?
I can sit and speak for days on end
Yet it seems to appear that no words go in
Ears that are locked with clasps

And all the while I wonder
If society it’s worth it
To give my thoughts to such a fragile society
Who seem to only want to reward me
Whenever I have something they want

While the pink girl frowns in a summer glow
The blue boy cries because nobody knows
And the grey person sits with an accord
From those to see how they see
You wish you could see how they see

We'll be in touch
