My Old Fashion Sketches {Artistic Progression}

A little over six years ago in 2011, I began sewing and getting into crafting by watching various YouTube videos. I didn’t think sketching was apart of the whole ordeal when it came to fashion, so I just decided to skip out on it. However, in 2015, I started to look deeper and deeper into fashion and realized that sketching usually came before the design process. This scared the crap out of me. The sketching that I would look up online and watch people do on Youtube and other social media was almost lifelike. Every time I would try to replicate that, it was a hot mess express. My skeptical self would stop, start up again, and eventually would just quick sketch if I needed to get my ideas across. Nothing actually artistic. Trying to get into the Fashion Institute of Technology for the fashion design portfolio really pushed me into overcoming my fear of sketching. Attending my first semester of college at said school also has pushed me because of the two sketching classes I’ve had to take which include Digital Design Studios and Visual Design Studios. If you’d like to read up on my time at the Fashion Institute of Technology, click here!
With all that being said, I hope you all enjoy my little video of me looking back at a few of my old fashion sketches between the years 2015-2017. I hope that in the new year and beyond, I can teach myself to become an even better sketcher and hopefully can make my art lifelike one day.

Here are two series of sketches I did for my collections “Creation and Demise” and “Soda” in 2017! These are ones I’m super proud of:

I decided to show my sketches in order to encourage others who are still learning or trying to better themselves that practice makes you better and you should never give up! Persevere. We’ll be in touch.
